Flirting with danger

So this weekend we rented a boat house with Matt and Annie (and their cute neighbors) in Lake Gaston. Lake Gaston is kinda like Lake Winnapasakee, except with a mobile home theme instead of a million-dollar mansion motif. We chose it because it was exactly 3 hours from DC and Charlotte--the perfect middle ground.

The weekend was everything we'd hoped it would be: delicious gluttony, stars on the pier, swimming and laughing.

Two instances are worth mentioning:

Instance #1: Saturday morning, no one really wants to get in the lake because it is sort of murky and sort of freezing but Matt thinks it sounds fun to play a game called "Flirt with Danger." He says (and this is a quote), "Let's flirt with danger and hop along the last plank of this pier on one foot. I'll go first." Approximately ten seconds later, Matt (fully dressed, including a baseball hat and glasses), makes a dramatic, very flaying decent into the murky abyss, losing both his glasses and his battle with Danger. Matt Giles jumps in to assist the search for the glasses (which were never found).

Instance #2: Saturday mid-afternoon we are on a walk around the lake. The two Matts see a dead tree and tip it into the lake. The game is to balance on it until your toes hit the water. My Matt goes first and makes it. Matt Giles is not so lucky. Yet another fully clothed man ends up in the lake.

Danger 2. The Matt's 0.

Good times. You can't blame us though - we were just paying homage to the part of us that is 12 years old.

Ha! I just got to the computer post Lake Gaston trip and might have to think of a new post, since I was thinking something along the lines of "Flirting with danger". Well, it was SO great to see you!!! Let's do it again in September.
