It's starting to get cold. I want a vacation.

The Valentine's Day we were engaged we hiked to the top of Ensign Peak in Salt Lake. It was misty, dead quiet, still. Indelibly imprinted in my memory. I read him Oh, the Places You'll Go by Dr. Suess and then gave him a Lonely Planet on Thailand. He kissed me and then gave me a Frommer's travel guide to Thailand. Perfect. An unplanned meeting of minds. An extra boost of confidence that our priorities were aligned. A sure sign that he would show me the world.

Which he has, to the extent that you can in fourish years (can you believe we've been married that long?). I have been to more places with Matt than I ever went on my own. In fact, I met him on 76th and Broadway on my very first trip to the Big City.

We fell in love on a road trip to San Diego.

We've driven cross-country.

Gotten fat on fruit shakes and fried egg rolls in Thailand.

Been to a theme park in Taiwan.

And played in an abandoned cathedral in Switzerland.

We've climbed the Rockies.

And been rafting in Yellowstone.

Seen NY at Christmas.

And DC in the Spring.

We've lived in China.

And Philadelphia.

And Charlotte (check out the leaf cover in our backyard in the Fall).

And all this to say, that when Matt kissed me on Ensign Peak and gave me a book telling me about all the snake farms I could visit in Koh Samui, I took it as a promise that we would go places. A lot. Which brings me to my point: We are itching to go somewhere in March (Italy? Greece? A cruise? A more economical, but just-as-exciting, road trip through Southern Alabama?). Now all we need is the funding and someone to watch our kids. I am taking donations and babysitting applications via the comment section.

I will take your kids- we are having the kind of week where not much else can get broken and no one could be more hyper- so the more the merrier. Drop them off anytime.
Better yet, I am dying to go to the beach- maybe we could all meet up in Disneyland?
I'll start counting my pennies...

You could drive half way across the country and stay in Dallas. It was 75 today and the word is it will be 80 tomorrow. Not bad for January. That said, last year the only snow we had was in March. But hey if you are up for it you are welcome. You can bring everybody, I will watch your kids here and you and Matt can head to Six Flags and whatever else you can think of. Not as romantic as an abandoned cathedral in Switzerland - but your impressive travel log is a bit hard to beat. Here is a funding idea. Mom told me that there was a guy in Salt Lake who stood downtown with a sign that asked for help to get to the Sugar Bowl. She said he collected $1800. Not a bad return on a 59 cent piece of poster board and some of your time. If you give it a go be sure and put a picture on your blog. Happy Trails!

When you put all your travels side by side -- you've lived quite the amazing and colorful life together.
I enjoyed the trip.....Mom McConkie

I enjoyed travelling through your travels in the past 4 years. It's really quite amazing when you put them all side by side. Thanks for the trip.....it's the only one I'll have for quite some time!

I would enjoy a trip to Charlotte to stay with the kids. Sign me up and bring me a souvenier. Love, Mom

Wow, that is awesome of how many places you've visited in such a short amount of time. What wonderful memories. Thanks for the ride!

Yeah, I can see why you are really itching to go on a vacation. Because Charlotte is really cold, and you haven't been anywhere cool.

And you know you have a place for your kids.

We were getting the vacation bug too infact I rented a beach house today for a weekend in May with some friends. Oregon coast here we come. I think maybe a little Mexico would be fun. We wanted to do that this year but with baby girl arriving we moved it to 2010.

Pick me! Pick me! You know I would LOVE to watch your kids . . . and if you come to San Fran, the vacationing possibilities are endless! You could bike through Napa Valley, visit Yosemite, go to Disneyland, hit the city, ski in Tahoe, Monterrey, oh so many options! And it is 75 degrees here today. Pretty tempting, isn't it???

Besides the beautiful places, your pictures are top-notch.

I vote Salt Lake City. But not just anywhere in Salt Lake. There's this little corner of town called Thirty-Third. It's totally different than Thirty-Ninth. You'll need full tourist regalia. And babysitting in the area can be arranged Chez La Famille Howe.
