I seriously think I have. I've calculated that I've at least canned (i.e. frozen in plastic bags) 160 pounds of peaches this season. There is a farmer's market near our house and if you find a man with a mullet wearing a red tank top and ask him for "soft peaches" he will sell you a basket for $5. The baskets are enourmous--easily 20 pounds--and I can't figure out why more people don't do this more often. Fresh peaches are one of the best things about the south. That and the bees the size of my thumb. I mean, honestly, how do they grow the bugs so big here?
So the last two times I've bought a basket I've made this:

which may be one of the most heavenly ways to eat peaches. Almond infused whip cream? Butter, sugar, and roasted peaches? So good.
If you don't have almonds you can make a topping out of oats, butter, flour, a little cinnamon, brown sugar, and almond extract. It is just as good.
And there might be some of you out there that actually try this recipe and think it is so-so (you are wrong, of course) and that is the problem with suggesting things on your blog (i.e. Bella). But that is the reason that I keep this sporadic little blog--to assert my opinion on unsuspecting readers. So there.

this looks so delicious. I wish we had a mulleted angel of peaches at our farmers market.
I love your blog. You are such a good writer you make even ho hum daily events interesting.
We missed you at the beach! Next year!
Please, just admit that Bella was not all that great...and it became even worse that I HAD TO PURCHASE IT after it mysteriously disappeared and blockbuster was done being nice.
I found it only after a certain redhead spilled water under our tv...and upon moving the tv I discovered a stash of 7 dvds.
Guess what movie you're getting for Christmas?? You can watch it while eating your peaches.
speaking of peaches, have you ventured south on I-85 for roughly an hour, looked off to the right and gasped, wondering if that is Jame's giant peach or possibly the largest "moon" you have ever seen?
um, I need a man who will sell me a 20 lb. box of peaches for $5. I missed peach picking season out here, and am so sad about it. Will you please make this dessert for us sometime? I'm sure it will taste better if Shelley makes it.
I want some of those peaches!!!! I miss the south for this simple reason: in Colorado we have to pay $28 for a box of peaches -- so I don't buy them. So sad.
Hugs, Mom Mc
Our little peach tree produced some small, but tasty peaches this year. This last week I have had sliced fresh peaches, plain yogurt and homemade granola mixed together every morning for breakfast. Now, that is good! I want to try your roasted peaches.
We did like Bella. I would say Matt has been suspended from the club, but could get back in with some good behavior. Love, Mom
I've eaten my weight in peaches this summer, too. Thank goodness I've been running a lot! i just learned how to can them, too. Lots of work, but very gratifying. Now I'll enjoy them yumminess in January as well.
Good for you- It's not like you weigh a ton to begin with... so eating your weight in peaches is probably a good thing.
Now if John Goodman were to do the same thing...
