Sometimes we do fun things

Today has been a typical Saturday. I ruined my favorite pajama pants while fighting a losing battle with the mildew in our shower (something we inherited from the previous owner and have not conquered yet). Here's a picture (of the pants--not the mildew):

Notice in this picture two other typical Saturday things: Matthew is wearing only a diaper and there are toys everywhere. While I've been cleaning, the kids have been making messes. If you zoomed in, you could probably see the stickers Maddy stuck in Matthew's hair. Speaking of Maddy and hair, today she is sporting her typical Saturday "do":

The most thrilling thing about today by far has been the Pig Pickin' at the church. Pig Pickin is a NC tradition that involves picking meat off an entire roasted pig. It looked a lot like this, except our pig had an apple in its mouth. One of the Korean sisters took it home to make a soup.....

So, all-in-all, today has been an okay Saturday, bland but appealing, sort of like soda crackers when you have the flu. But all day long all I could think of was last Saturday which was about as dreamy as they come.

Last Saturday we were up in the wee hours to go via boat to watch the annual dragon boat races. We ate donuts and biscuits for breakfast, got killer tans (i.e. burns) and spent the day frolicking in the warm, clear waters of Lake Norman. Look how happy we look:

And that's not all. We came home from boating in time for me to rush to a 4:00 wedding while the rest of the family had naps and then I came home in time to go to a baptism of a Liberian woman in our area. Matt got to baptize her. Doesn't she look radiant?

It is not every Saturday that you get to see dragon boats AND so many people dressed in white making earthly and eternal covenants all in the same day. It was the perfect day and I wish I could recreate it every Saturday.

Sure beats bleach stains, pig heads and mildew.

Oh common, I'm sure pig heads is going to be an annual tradition now. You definitely live in the South! Though I agree that your weekend at Lake Norman and baptism are hard to beat. I think you guys are always doing fun things.

Who took you to the Lake? When did you guys become boaters? This is a big deal. Are you boaters? Or just friends of boaters?

I love the pictures. I think the Saturday hair do is perfect. She looks so much like you. I feel you pain with living in construction. I feel rather displaced right now too. Three more weeks until we are in Seattle and not living out of suitcases.

Some weekends are definately better than others--but isn't there a gospel principle about that--we have to have the bland to appreciate the exciting? (Maybe not exactly those words). I love the pictures! Send pictures by email so I can print them out--or can I do that from your blog?
