There is this Veggie Tales song, sung by a green bean or something, that goes a little like this:
I thank God for this day,
For the sun in the sky,
For my mom and my dad,
For my piece of apple pie...
For some reason this just came in my head and you know the part that really got to me? just now? The whole apple pie bit.
And I've ho-hummed Charlotte, explaining our experience here with things like "you can still find parking down town, for free, in the middle of the day" and "everyone is just so nice" with this tone in my voice like those are somehow bad things. Like I didn't realize when I picked it up that North Carolina wouldn't be wearing pointy-toed high heels with her jeans (is that even still in fashion?).
But this piece of apple pie. The swing in our backyard lapping over newly seeded grass, talking politics and fishy crackers at the park, the accessablity of space to grow. Miss Elizabeth's story time, holding onto the "Ohhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmm" at yoga for as long as I can, free balloons and sugar cookies at Harris Teeter. Bubbles, chalk, neighbors, tree-lined streets, sidewalks, Indian summer, slow-cooked leaves, vinegary BBQ. It's pretty darn good. Pretty darn good.

I love this picture of Matthew! And in a few hours it will be his birthday......."I thank God this day" - October 22 - when li'l Matthew Bruce joined you in lovely Charlotte.
What a beautiful child! Can you email that picture so we can print it? We are so grateful for him and for his good health. Love, Mom and Dad
